Verse 1
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High (El Elyon) shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (El Shaddai).” LORD God, I ask You to bring me or _______ into Your secret place on high to dwell with You. Bring Your shadow out around me, to keep me invisible, so that the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places are blinded to seeing me.
Verse 2
“I will say of the LORD (Yahuah), “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God (Elohiym), in Him I will trust.” Thank You, LORD, for being my refuge and protection from trouble. Thank you for being my fortress to protect me from outside forces or influences of _______. You are my God. In You, I will trust. Forgive me for not wholeheartedly trusting in you for _______ or in _______ situation. I ask You, LORD, to give me the ability to trust You for _______ or in _______ situation.
Verse 3
“Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the perilous pestilence.” I ask that You deliver me or _______ from the snare of the fowler, which is attempting to trap me in temptation and the sin of _______. I take the authority You have given me over the fowler and his snare of _______, and I tread it under my feet and command it to be rendered powerless.
I take the authority You have given me over the perilous pestilence of sickness, disease, and cancer. LORD God, I ask that You dismantle and remove all the energy, ionic charges, quark energy, frequencies, and the spirit of all cancer cells and organisms, such as viruses, flu, bacteria, parasites, spirochetes, or fungi that may be affecting me and render them powerless. I command my immune system to destroy all cancer cells and organisms. Give me the ability to trust in the fulfillment of Your covenants and promises that I am healed by Your stripes and shed blood. I pray for the fulfillment of Romans 8:11, which states: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
Verses 4-6
“He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.” LORD God, I ask that You cover me or _______ with Your wing of protection and place Your feathers over me in all circumstances, to make me invisible and cloaked to those who want to afflict me. Thank You, LORD, for Your truth, the Bible, to be my shield and buckler. Cover me with Your shield of truth. May it deflect all fear of the terror by night and all arrows that fly by day. I take authority over the pestilence of all organisms that walk in darkness to be neutered and made powerless. I take authority over the fear generated by evil men and women that it will be abolished. I look to You for my help.
Verse 7
“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.” LORD God, I ask that You bring Your wrath and vengeance on the wicked people behind the evil in this world so that a thousand may fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, but it shall not come near me. You promised in Psalm 37:13 that their day is coming. I pray that You hasten that day. I ask that You fulfill Your covenants in Psalm 37 that the wicked will be no more. We will look for them, but we will not find them.
Verse 8
“Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.” Thank You, LORD, for fulfilling Your promise that I shall look and see the reward of the wicked with my eyes. Let the very net they have cast to destroy me or _______ catch themselves; into that same destruction, let them fall (Psalm 35:8). I pray that their swords of destruction turn back into their own hearts and that their bows causing death and destruction to be broken. I ask that the plots designed to destroy the righteous break and fail (Psalm 37:15).
Verses 9-10
“Because you have made the LORD (Yahuah), who is my refuge, Even the Most High (El Elyon), your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” Because I made You my refuge and dwelling place, I am trusting You that no evil shall befall me or _______, nor any plague will come near my dwelling or in my body. I understand that I live in a wicked, fallen world that seeks to destroy me, so if plague and pestilence do make me ill, I ask, LORD God, that You would cover it with the blood of Jesus and release and remove it by the power of the Holy Spirit and in Your Son Jesus’ name.
Verses 11-12
“For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” I praise You, LORD, for giving Your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways and to protect me from evil and all manner of pestilence. Thank You, LORD, for commissioning the angels to pick me up in their hands and bear me up above adversity lest I dash my foot against a stone or have harm come to me.
Verse 13
“You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.” Thank You, LORD, for giving me and all believers the authority to tread upon the lion and the cobra of destruction, and the young lion and the serpent of deception we shall trample under our feet. I pray, LORD God, that You will keep me cloaked with Your feathers and shielded with the truth so that the demonic and occult realms are blinded from seeing us.
Verse 14
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” LORD God, I have set my love on You. I ask You to deliver me from the plots, plans, pestilence, plagues, traps, snares, and all manner of evil set up for me by the wicked represented by principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. LORD God, I know Your name. I ask You to set me on high so that the devil, who is going to and fro seeking whom he may devour, will be thwarted from reaching me.
Verses 15-16
“He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life, I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.” Thank You, LORD, for answering my prayer when I call upon You. Thank You for being with me in times of trouble. Thank You for delivering me and honoring me. Thank You for satisfying me with a long life and showing me your salvation. I ask for the fulfillment of this Psalm 91 prayer by the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen. I declare Isaiah 55:11, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
This prayer is just an example of how to personalize Psalm 91. You can use this scripture and personalize it how you need it to fit your circumstance or situation. See Addendum 3 for another example of praying Psalm 91 personalized against plots of the wicked and human trafficking. When I pray this deep and wide, standing in the gap, interceding for God’s elect, I put the Bible on my head. I may also stand on the Bible to have that extra covering over me, under me, and through my prayer. It states in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This light does not allow the darkness to comprehend (John 1:5) what is being said or prayed. I do this to make my prayer invisible, and cloaked. I like how the scripture in Romans 13:12 tells me to put on the “armor of light.” Cloaking means to cover or hide so the demonic and occultic spirit realms do not know who to retaliate back on.
