LIVER and GALLBLADDER HEALTH
by Janis M. Betz, R.N., B.S.N.
The health of your liver and gallbladder function is the main key to over-all body health. When your liver and gallbladder health is compromised and diminished then you are not able to filter all of the toxins from your blood. Toxins may come from cellular waste, environment, air, water, food, and beauty products. The built-up toxins in your body stimulate cancer growth.
The first step in cleaning toxins out of your body is to stop dumping toxins into your body. The second step is to clean out your colon, which I call the sewer line. Your sewer line (colon) needs to move its contents two to three times a day, foot long, 1 inch around, and half floating. The third step is to clean out your liver, which I call the toxic dump filter and garbage disposal system. If your sewer line is backed up then your filter/garbage disposal system will also back up. Your gastrointestinal system (stomach, small intestine, and colon) is connected to your liver by the hepatic portal vein system. This vein transports gastrointestinal blood from your stomach, small intestine, and colon to your liver. One of your liver’s functions is to absorb and store nutrients, and also remove toxins and pollutants. The detoxified blood is then sent to your heart and lungs for oxygenation and redistribution.
In the Alternative Medicine, The Definitive Guide book, James Braly, M.D., writes that poor colon function may cause a state of toxemia, which means the presence of toxins in the bloodstream. The longer fecal matter stays in your colon (> 24 hours consistently), the more likely it is that toxins will pass into your bloodstream. This will stress your liver and overload its ability to filter this toxic blood. Your liver will then send this toxic blood to your heart which will redistribute it to the rest of your body. Any level of toxicity will stress your cellular function, which will cause cancer and other diseases to occur. The majority of cancers and disease can be traced back to a poorly functioning liver and colon, as well as a poor diet (Standard American Diet) and destructive living habits (i.e. smoking, inactivity).
Your liver is located in your right upper, mid-section of your body below your breast line. The right lobe’s outer-most border runs along your right rib cage edge. The left lobe runs across the middle of your body at the bottom edge of your sternum. Your gallbladder sits on the underside/back of your right liver lobe toward your mid-section.
Your liver is responsible for more than 500 functions. Some of the major functions are the production of bile, the secretion of glucose, proteins, vitamins, fats, and most of the other compounds used by the body, and the processing of hemoglobin for vital use of its iron content. Bile from the liver is stored in the hepatic duct and gallbladder.
Bile is a yellow-green secretion of the liver. It is partly a waste product of the liver’s chemical detox processes. Bile is necessary for the digestion of fat so that the digested fat can be absorbed through your small intestine. Many nutrients and minerals need to attach to a fat molecule to be absorbed through your small bowel. Bile also acts like a detergent to clean your colon walls. It is slippery so that your fecal matter moves without a lot of effort. Bile helps your colon retain water to keep your fecal matter soft. Sufficient bile production will give your fecal matter the dark brown color. If your fecal matter is light to medium brown color, you may be having liver and/or gallbladder problems. Bile is very important for digestion and bowel health.
Gallstones are formed in the liver as a result of the bile becoming saturated with cholesterol. Then the stones are dumped into your gallbladder along with the bile. Over time, calcium in the bile will form a coating around the soft stone and make it hard. This coating can build up like a pearl. You could have gallstones and never know it. Symptoms of a gallbladder attack may include: pain deep in your right upper side and/or between your shoulder blades or under your right shoulder blade; tight/tense muscles in your upper shoulders, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Discomfort can radiate anywhere in your abdomen and often occurs after you eat a fatty meal. If a stone gets stuck in your liver bile ducts, you will have discomfort and/or sharp pain somewhere in your liver area or back.
When your liver is stressed with stones and/or too many toxins, you may become very fatigued, feel sluggish, have fuzzy memory and thought processes, and have a general overall ill feeling. When your liver cannot cope with the over accumulation of toxins, then the toxins may exit elsewhere, like your skin, lungs, kidneys, nose, and sinuses. It is not unusual to have a chronic irritating cough, chronic stuffy nose and sinuses, and/or acne/boils. Dark circles under your eyes may appear along with a grayish skin color. A coffee enema is a good way to clean out excess toxins in your liver along with the herbs dandelion and milk thistle.

My gallbladder problems began when I was in my twenties. I did not know that I was having gallbladder problems just like the majority of people. I had the back discomfort, indigestion, and belching after everything that I put in my mouth. I would get sharp pain in my right side from time to time, but the doctors passed it off as a bowel issue. When I mentioned that it could be my gallbladder, they said I was too young. In April 2001, I went to an alternative health practitioner, and he muscle tested me and found that my gallbladder was very bad. He said that I needed to get it flushed out right now.
The first gallbladder flush I did was the classic coke, lemon, and olive oil concoction and nothing happened, but I did it in the middle of the day and I did not prepare my gallbladder or bile ducts for the flush. I also did not lay down on my right side for 30 minutes. In fact, I did not receive any instructions other then drink this concoction. This is why I am writing every detail of the flush so that it can be done correctly, effectively, and safely.
I talked to another alternative practitioner, and she told me of another way to do the gallbladder flush, and it worked much better. My major side effect for the first three flushes was vomiting most of the night and a lot of cramping in my right side. One of my clients gave me a document of another method to flush out my gallbladder, and this one worked even better. This flush had you drink 2 Epsom salt drinks before the oil. I did not get sick with this flush. Then another client went on the internet and gave me yet another, but similar, gallbladder flush protocol. This protocol mentioned that you can do almond oil instead of olive oil and grapefruit juice instead of lemon. This one worked the best. I did not get sick at all. Finally, something is working.
Each time that I did the gallbladder flush, from the 3rd flush to the 15th, I expelled hundreds of stones ranging in size from rice to quarter-size. When I was reading Dr. Gerson’s book about cancer and cleansing the liver with coffee enemas, I started to combine a coffee enema with my gallbladder flush, and I got even better results. By my 8th liver/gallbladder flush, I started adding the Jacob’s Creek red merlot wine, and drinking the grapefruit juice separate from the oil. By doing this, I was able to get the oil down much better, without wanting to bring it back up again.
The red wine came about when I was having a lot of liver pressure and discomfort, and I was praying for an answer to relieve my liver congestion. The red merlot wine came to my thoughts as the answer, so I went to the state store and muscle tested all of the red wines, and Jacob’s Creek Merlot tested the best. I have received relief of the pressure and congestion in my liver, and it has been a big help in getting my liver stones out.
The day that the quarter-size, wax gall stone wanted to be delivered, I was nauseated, weak, and I could not eat without feeling ill. I did my 10th liver/gallbladder flush, and this time, the stone got stuck. I woke up a 2:30 a.m. with sweating, a racing heart rate, and rapid, shallow respirations. I also had intense pressure in my right side. I drank another glass of wine, and I did another coffee enema. In 30 minutes, all of my symptoms subsided, and I went to sleep. The next morning I passed a quarter-size waxy stone.
Since I have written this article and the Liver/Gall-bladder flush protocol, I have stumbled upon a way to get rid of cholesterol gallstones without drinking down the oil, with the exception of waxy stones. I was experimenting with organic RAIN vodka saturated with frequencies of certain colors and essential oils to help clear the body of toxic energy from bad organisms, such as yeast, parasites, virus, etc., and the organisms were destroyed much faster then with supplements. Several of my clients needed to have a liver/gallbladder flush, but after two weeks of taking 15 drops of vodka frequency formula three times a day, they did not need the flush any more. I started to just muscle test the vodka instead of all of the ingredients for the traditional flush, and 15 drops of RAIN vodka 3x/day tested as the best method to clean out the gallbladder without drinking down the oil and with no discomfort. Many of my clients have reported no more gallbladder congestion symptoms or attacks.
Liver/Gallbladder Flush – Liver Only Flush
Colon Cleanse – Kidney Flush
by Janis M. Betz, R.N., B.S.N.
If you choose to do these flushes, you are prescribing for yourself, which is your constitutional right.
Before you do the liver/gallbladder flush, you need to be having a large, soft, formed stool 2 times a day (ideal). One very large BM daily will be acceptable in this situation. Why? Your liver dumps its contents into your small bowel, and if your large bowel is not moving adequately, then you reabsorb the toxic material right back into your body. This stresses your liver even more.
Your kidneys also remove toxins out of your body, so they need to be fully functioning. Kidney function is hampered by a high protein diet, white flour, oxalic acid (raw Swiss chard, spinach, red beet and turnip tops) and dehydration (less than 1/2 the body weight in ounces of water per day). Calcium Carbonate in calcium supplements and hard water contribute to the formation of kidney and gallstones.
If your bowels are not moving well everyday, and if you suspect that your kidneys are sluggish, do a 4-day colon cleanse along with akidney flush.
COLON CLEANSE: Each day do the following:
1. Take 1-2 Cascara Sagrada laxative capsules or one laxative tea a day.
2. Take 1 acidophilus/bifidus capsule at bedtime.
3. Take a fiber supplement as directed (i.e. plain psyllium) or mix and eat 2-4 Tbsp. each raw oat bran, applesauce, and prune juice 2 times a day.
4. Eat an apple in the morning and before bed.
5. Give yourself an enema, if necessary.
6. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day. Herbal teas and citrus cleanse are acceptable. (150 lbs. = 75 oz. = 9 1/2 C.)
Fiber and water should be done every day forever!
If your bowels are moving very well then just do the KIDNEY FLUSH. Each day do the following:
1. Eat meat sparingly or not at all.
2. Drink 1 cup hot lemon water 2 times a day. To make: Squeeze 1 fresh lemon in hot water and sweeten with a little maple syrup or honey.
3. Take a kidney cleanse herbal remedy (opt.).
4. Drink 1 packet of Cranberry Emer’gen-Cä or take 2 cranberry capsules in the morning 1/2 hour before fiber or breakfast.
5. If kidney stones are suspected or are present, add 1 tsp. Phosphoric acid (Ultra PPI) to 1 C. cranberry juice. Drink 1 C. of this juice mix 2 times a day after the hot lemon water. Drink the juice through a straw. The acid may negatively affect the enamel on your teeth.
LIVER/GALLBLADDER FLUSH
Indications for the need to do a Liver/Gallbladder Flush include light colored stools or stools with various colors, nausea after eating, belching, bloating, indigestion, chronic loose stools or diarrhea, pain/discomfort on right side below rib cage 2″ from the center and/or between the shoulder blades, and tense and tender upper shoulder back muscles.
You will need the following:
- Organic, whole apple juice – 1 gallon
- Phosphoric acid – Ultra PPI by Biotics
or from another company.
- Beta TCP by Biotics (order from me)
or L-Taurine (100 mg.) & red beet tablets.
- Epsom salts
- Grapefruit
- Olive oil (cold press, extra virgin) or Almond oil
- (Opt.) Emer’gen-C (vitamin/trace mineral drink)
- (Opt.) Organic coffee beans & coffee grinder
- (Opt.) Enema bag or hot water bottle with enema attachment
- (Opt.) Jacob’s Creek Merlot (red wine)
This flush will be for 3 days with a 4th day for rest.
Days 1 & 2
1. Drink 1 qt. of organic apple juice with 1 Tbsp. of phosphoric acid (Ultra PPI) added to juice. Sip on this throughout the day. Use a straw because the acid may soften your teeth. The phosphoric acid dissolves the calcium coating around the stones, which makes them soft and easy to pass.
2. Take 2 Beta TCP tablets three times a day 30 minutes before each meal, if eating or 2 red beet tablets and 2 L-Taurine (100 mg.).
3. Eat low or NO -FAT light meals. (Fish, lightly steamed or raw vegetables, salad, & fruit)
Day 3
1. Follow days 1 & 2 protocol, but try to fast the whole day. If you can’t fast, eat only fruit and/or vegetables. Do not eat after 2 PM. NO FAT!
2. Prepare an Epsom salts colon flush and chill. (3 Tbsp. Epsom salt in 3 cups apple juice)
3. At 6 PM, drink 1 cup of Epsom salt colon flush.
4. At 8 PM, drink 1 cup of Epsom salt colon flush. You will have the diarrhea after the Epsom salt colon flush. This is ok.
5. Optional: at 9 PM, drink 1/2 cup of Jacob’s Creek Merlot to relax and dilate the bile ducts.
6. Optional: at 9 PM, do a coffee enema. This stimulates the liver to dump its contents.
7. At 10 PM drink 4 oz. (1/2 C.) of olive or almond oil along with the juice of a small grapefruit. Keep the juice and oil in separate glasses then put a straw in both glasses and suck down the two drinks together (restrict the grapefruit juice straw to drink it slower then the oil). Leave a little juice at the end to get the oil taste out of your mouth. You may suck on a peppermint to cut the taste and calm any nausea that may occur.
8. Lie down on your right side with your knees pulled up close to your chest for at least 30 minutes – NO CHEATING on time. It is best to go right to bed for the night. If you have a lot of discomfort and distress, you may be passing a very large stone. It is helpful to drink 1/2-1 cup of Jacob’s Creek Merlot and do a coffee enema at least 2 hours after drinking the oil.
Day 4
1. First thing, drink 1 cup Epsom salt colon flush or if you have to go to work, take a fiber supplement.
2. Rest and eat lightly the rest of the day.
3. Drink 1 packet of Emer’gen-C™ or take a multi-vitamin if you feel weak and washed out.
You may feel nauseated. Deep breathing will help it to pass. You may also take 1-2 Tbsp. liquid bentonite clay (# 16) by VIT-RA-TOX or Sonie’s.
If you get hundreds of soft green stones, then do the ONE-DAY LIVER/GALLBALDDER FLUSH in 2-4 weeks. You may do it sooner if in distress with mid-back/abdominal pain or discomfort. Repeat the one-day flush every 2-12 weeks until you get fewer than 50 stones. It has been reported that some people had no results. This does not mean that the flush was not effective. Repeat the 3-day flush again in 2-4 weeks. It is recommended that you do a 3-day Liver/Gallbladder Flush twice a year.

ONE-DAY LIVER/GALLBLADDER FLUSH
This is a follow-up flush 2-4 weeks after 3-day flush.
1. Follow the day 3 protocol, but without putting phosphoric acid in the apple juice.
2. The next morning, drink 1 cup Epsom salt colon flush or if you have to go to work, take a fiber supplement. Drink 1 packEmer’gen-C™ or take a multi-vitamin if you feel weak and washed out.
CAUTION: The one-day flush is not recommended to be done if you have not first done a 3-day flush because hard calcified stones may cause damage to your bile duct. They may also cause extreme pain if not softened by the phosphoric acid.

In many cases, hundreds of soft green-tan stones will pass. They will float because they are mostly cholesterol, which is fatty. Some stones may be waxy and firm. They range in size from sand to gum balls. These stones come from both the gallbladder and the liver. Some people have been known to pass stones as large as golf balls, which are small stones densely packed together. They are often waxy and firm. Many people have used the liver/gallbladder flush to successfully avoid surgery.
In an article I read, it stated that when gall/liver stones where analyzed, bacteria, parasite, fungus, or virus organisms were found at the center. It’s like when a piece of sand gets into an oyster and makes a pearl. Because of this, it is recommended that a flush be done twice a year to keep the liver cleaned out and functioning well. Doing a parasite cleanse along with taking an olive leaf supplement for 2 months a year may help remove bad organisms from your body. _______________________________________________________________________________
LIVER ONLY FLUSH: (This can be done up to 2 months after a 3-day Liver/Gallbladder flush.) If you have pressure, discomfort, or sharp pain in the right side and back of your liver area, you may have built up toxins, gavel/sludge or have a lodged liver stone(s). Liver stones tend to be waxy and firm, and they are difficult to pass. I have found a way to flush the liver of its contents.
1. Do an Epsom salt enema – 4 Tbsp. Epsom salts in 1 qt. of warm water. Lay on your left side. Hold this enema for at least 10-15 minutes. This helps to relax the bile ducts and clean out the colon.
2. Drink 1/2 – 1 cup of Jacob’s Creek Merlot in about 15 minutes (amount depends on body wt. and tolerance). This dilates and relaxes the ducts.
3. Take 2-4 tablets of either Beta TCP or red beet and L-Taurine (100 mg.) with the Merlot wine.
4. Do a coffee enema. This helps the liver to excrete out its toxic contents and stones.
5. Right after the coffee enema, get into a very warm detox bath with 1 cup Epsom salt and 1 cup baking soda. The heat helps to dissolve the waxy stone(s) so that they can get through your now relaxed and dilated bile ducts.
6. If you suspect a large liver stone, you may need to drink a 1/3 C. of Merlot wine during your bath.
****After 5-7 liver only flushes you may need to do a 1-day flush to remove any soft stones or sludge that may have been dumped into your gallbladder.
